'A Child of Our Time' (Michael Tippett)

Professional Soloists -

Tim Rhys-Morgan - Accompianist

Roy Wales - Director

This Study weekend aims to give enthusiastic choral singers the opportunity to work with fellow singers and an experienced professional conductor, soloists and pianist in a relaxing and pleasant environment. Participants will have the opportunity to work on Sir Michael Tippett's inspiring and challenging 'A Child of our Time'. Although parts of the work are difficult, other sections are very accessible, especially the 5 special arrangement of Negro Spirituals which form an integral part of the 'A Child of our Time'. The venue chosen is Alfriston, a beautiful Sussex village not far from Seaford and Eastbourne. The river Cuckmere runs through the village, past the church, which is known as 'The Cathedral of the South Downs'. The War Memorial Hall is right next door to the church on the village green and has been refurbished in recent years to provide excellent facilities for an event such as this. There will be a run-through performance on the Sunday afternoon with professional soloists. Music will be available for the use of participants.

The course commences on Friday evening. There are two sessions on the Saturday and an optional dinner has been arranged at Dean's Place Hotel, Alfriston (
